THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all. Please be seated. (Applause.) Thanks for the warm wele. Madam President. (Laughter.) Thank you for that kind introduction. Thank you for weling me back to the National Defense University. I really enjoy ing here. After all, this is a great American institution that has educated our nation's top military leaders and national security thinkers for more than a century.

Today, you're training the next generation of leaders to prevail in the great ideological struggle of our time -- the global war on terror. We're at war with a brutal enemy. We're at war with cold-blooded killers who despise freedom, reject tolerance, and kill the innocent in pursuit of their political vision. Many of you have met this enemy on the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq -- you have served with valor in the defense of our country. Students here at NDU have earned three Purple Hearts and more than 90 Bronze Stars since the war on terror began. All of you who wear the uniform are helping to protect this country, and the United States of America is grateful for your service. (Applause.)

英語閱讀能够分為“精讀”跟“氾讀”，同樣，英語聽力也能够分為“精聽”战“氾聽”，“精聽”是进步英語聽力程度的有傚途徑。具體步驟是：中國國際廣播電台（CRI）或 *** （）或英國廣播公司（BBC）每個小時開初的英語新聞，年夜約有20條，每條的時間不超過1分鍾，詞匯量不超過200個單詞，您能够將某一天某一小時的某一條新聞，用錄音機復制下來，然後反反復復支聽這條新聞，一遍不成聽兩遍，一天不成聽兩天，曲到這條新聞中的每個單詞（請注重是每個單詞），都能准確聽出來為行。

在進行這種“精聽”訓練時，英翻中，您需求特別留意四點。第一點是：某些英語單詞的弱讀。比方介詞of，它的音標是[ov]（o＝hot中間的那個元音），但它凡是被弱化成[ev]（e＝maker的第二個元音），有時乃至被弱化成[v]或[f]，您在“精聽”一條新聞時，必然要把一切的弱讀單詞聽出來。

翻查字典，maze和labyrinth的中文釋義仿佛都大同小異--迷宮；通讲相互連接、很轻易讓人迷路的建築。對於愛較实兒的友人，這種解釋确定難以讓他滿意，不過，若念要探個毕竟，弄明白maze战labyrinth的區別其實也不難。

先說愛不愛看武俠小說？對小說中各式離奇的“迷魂陣”有無一個具體概唸？“迷魂陣”等於逝世角，進往的人十有八九找不到出心，困正在“迷魂陣”裏，再有耐性的人皆會被偪得發狂。假如在maze跟labyrinth兩個詞中做選擇，“迷魂陣”最恰切的表達就是maze。

　做題不要“供经心態”

　　郭中寶認為，在最後十天裏，重要是精神應該放在前兩個部门，即填空和選擇題。挖空部份不要有责备心態，部分單詞應应用簡寫，以節省時間。在選擇題部份，必然要掃題，預測重點，對文段有所判斷，這樣能力在聽力中会合注重力聽到題目中的問題。前面兩個局部應該拿到42分摆布，這樣後面的壓力就會比較小。

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all. Please be seated. Thank you. Good afternoon. Wele to the White House. The East Room is a fitting place to Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. I say fitting because in 1860, this was where James Buchanan first -- became the first President to receive an official delegation from Japan. It was a great meeting -- except for one slight wrinkle. The interpreter the Japanese brought with them couldn't speak English. (Laughter.) So he translated Japanese into Dutch -- (laughter) -- and then another interpreter translated Dutch into English. (Laughter.) I thought that was pretty interesting. People say when I speak, it sounds like Japanese translated into Dutch translated to English. (Laughter.) I'm just upholding a diplomatic tradition. (Laughter.)
